Registration as Interested PartyThe primary piece of legislation affecting the shell collector is the Marine Living Resources Act of 1998. Unfortunately the main focus of the legislation seems to be the regulating of the fishing industry which creates several challenges for the shell collector. Book PreviewIt is with pride that CMS launches its first publication, The Illustrated guide to South African Seashells. Traditionally only the more popular and accessible shells and species were included in regional publications but this is the first one that endeavours to include all described species in a family regardless of its size and scarcity. With a large number of type specimens pictured this is a remarkable publication for the shell enthusiast. National Shell for South AfricaSouth Africa has several national symbols which include the national flower (King Protea), national animal (Springbok), national bird (Blue Crane), national fish (Galjoen) and the national tree (Real Yellowwood), but we do not have a national shell. Included a survey to select a national shell which will be presented at the next Conchological Society AGM for confirmation. |
